Ipsanbong (Satgat Oreum Volcanic Cone)

Located in Gimnyeong-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, Ipsanbong (Satgat Oreum Volcanic Cone) stands at a modest elevation of 85 meters. The summit features a wide, circular crater, giving it a unique shape reminiscent of an overturned traditional Korean hat, or *satgat*. With gravesites scattered across most of its slopes—except for parts of the northern slope and the crater itself—this site is often referred to as the "home of the deceased" or a "resting place for souls." It serves as a poignant reflection of traditional Jeju beliefs, embodying the spiritual cycle where people are born at the foot of the oreum and eventually return to its embrace.
