Han Dong-hwan Haejangseong
Located in Handong-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, Han Dong-hwan Haejangseong preserves the remaining traces of the roughly 120-kilometer-long coastal fortress originally constructed in the 11th year of King Wonjong’s reign during the Goryeo Dynasty. General Kim Tong-jung built this defensive wall to support the Sambyeolcho army’s resistance against Mongol invasions. The structure was later reinforced several times during the Joseon Dynasty to protect against pirate raids. Today, visitors can explore the historic stone walls that line the coastline, offering a tangible glimpse into Jeju’s rich military heritage.
