The main peak, standing at 743m and home to a transmission tower, is known as Gaeori. Former site of Jochon Middle School
Established in March 1946 through the voluntary efforts of local leaders and residents, the Former site of Jochon Middle School was a product of the surge in secondary school establishment during the liberation era. While the faculty consisted of highly talented intellectuals who had studied in places like Japan, most were lost during the April 3 Incident due to their connections with Namrodang organizations. The site also holds deep historical ties to Lee Deok-gu, the commander of the People's Guerrilla Force. Following the March 1st protests in 1947, teaching became increasingly difficult due to suppression by the U.S. military government and the West Jeju police. During this period, teachers and students frequently faced arrests and torture, and many were forced into organizations such as the Min-ae-cheong.
